Our story

Habari Productions is a creative media space with a focus on giving back. We have travelled to some of the most remote places on Earth, and are inspired by the people we meet and the stories they have to tell. Our photographic work has been shortlisted by National Geographic and has featured in broadcasts and publications around the world.

We are Stephanie Hunt and Ben Hogarth. We are both experienced broadcast journalist/producers who have spent the past twenty years working nationally and internationally in the media industry, including BBC, Sky, Al Jazeera and the Seven Network. We like to travel to far-flung places and have a deep passion for Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

We are WorldNomads.com Travel Safety Reporters and have filmed in Colombia and Mexico.

We are also media and production consultants. We have advised the BBC Natural History Unit along with a range of TV channels and production companies on how to film in Australia, remote Africa and Asia.

In the digital space, Habari Productions was among 75 influencers around the globe who took part in the world’s first social media relay, in collaboration with Helloworld.

Stephanie Hunt Co-Director

Stephanie is an international journalist, producer, news editor and writer who likes to make things happen. She has twenty years’ experience in the media industry and has worked at the top of the game for Al Jazeera English, BBC World News, HARDtalk, Sky News London, Seven Network Australia and Storyful social media news agency.

She’s produced interviews with the Dalai Lama, Black Eyed Peas and has covered a Royal Wedding and the Winter Olympics. She’s also produced TV content in Mongolia and Bangladesh with World Vision and the Solomon Islands with UNICEF. In August Steph delivered a TEDx talk on the lessons she has learnt from remote African tribes. She has also presented a travel safety video series in Colombia for worldnomads.com, featured in a range of podcasts including Good Chat by Matt Tinney. She’s run a ‘Verification and User Generated Content’ workshop for The Walkley Foundation and Melbourne Press Club and took part in a lecture for the University of Technology Sydney on UGC and journalism ethics.

Stephanie's favourite travel locations include Ethiopia, Jordan, Mongolia, Italy and her home - the Australian bush.

Ben Hogarth Co-Director

Ben Hogarth has been in the media industry for two decades. He's been in the thick of everything from breaking news coverage, feature stories and outside broadcasts. He’s produced live hits from the top of Mt Kilimanjaro; a shark cage in South Australia and the peaks of Peru's Machu Picchu. He recently wrote and executive produced the documentary ‘Kokoda’ for Fox League, tackling the gruelling 96km trek as part of the 75th anniversary of the Kokoda campaign.

As a field producer for Australia's number one breakfast TV show, Ben coordinated live crosses from around Australia and also around the globe - on a daily basis. Along with the Seven Network, Ben has also worked for Al Jazeera and presented for World Nomads.

Ben now works as a creative producer for Fox League Australia.

His favourite travel locations include Kenya, Ethiopia, Iran, Botswana and Rwanda.

Our love of storytelling

Along with working in the media, we’ve been travelling and taking photos for more than a decade in places including Syria, Iran, Africa, Myanmar, Mongolia, Mexico, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Europe, America, Maldives our homeland Australia, and so many more.

In 2012 we swapped our TV producing world in Sydney for the depths of Africa. We explored West Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania and lived with some of the world's most remote and endangered tribes.

We met families living on the edges of civilisation. We attended ceremonies, rites of passage, religious festivals and traditional dances. There were times when we were literally off the map! Humanity in all its beauty, horror, strength and weakness can be seen in our photographs.

Exhibitions and books

Habari Productions' 'Tribe' exhibition was held at Sydney's Queen St Gallery on July 19-31.

Our work has also been showcased at Two Hands Wines in South Australia's stunning Barossa Valley, along with a pop-up exhibition at X&Co Cafe in Crows Nest, Sydney.

We have also published a hard cover photo book: 'Tribe: Life on the Edge. A story of beauty and survival. It features 224 pages of stunning photos from our TRIBE exhibition. The forward is written by Simon Reeve.

“To carry and protect the integrity of a story from an individual or a group, takes understanding and skill. Steph wears this as a badge of honour. Any organisation would be well advised to utilise her expertise. Your message and ideas need to be in the most capable hands to help you achieve your goals. Steph will help you craft and deliver that message with sincerity and class.”

“From influencer marketing in the Middle East during the world’s first Instagram Relay to visual storytelling at one of my feasts here in the Highlands, Steph and Ben are masters. They intuitively understand the best way to communicate the emotion, to find the story, to pull back the veil and see inside and to ultimately define the moment in an image, a clip or a slideshow. Years of experience in media across TV, Print and Digital shows in all their projects and they are a gift, if they agree to work with you.”
