JINKA MARKET
JINKA MARKET, OMO VALLEY, ETHIOPIA.
We met these girls on an old verandah at Jinka market, in the Omo Valley. The open air market was buzzing. Everything from live chickens and freshly picked vegetables to clay pots and beaded jewellery was for sale. Tribes from all over the area were there - Tsemay, Hamer, Banna - all hustling and wheeling and dealing to get the right price. The sun was scorching and we needed shade. We sat next to the Tsemay girls for about an hour and soaked it all in. The girls showed us their tribal jewellery and facial tattoos - three lines down their forehead so people would forever know they're from the Tsemay tribe.
